Sustainable Environment Competition for kids

Open to library members across Sri Lanka.

We are living in an age where environment sustainability is taking precedence over everything else. It has become imperative that we foster awareness and action from a very young age.

The British Council Sustainable Environment video competition aims to empower children to become agents of change by encouraging them to express their ideas and initiatives for a greener, more sustainable future through creative video storytelling.

This competition is exclusively for British Council library members.

Competition theme: How can I contribute to a sustainable environment.

Competition details:

  • Prior registration is mandatory to participate in this competition. Please click on the link above to register.
  • Participants may compete individually or in teams of up to 3 members and create a video on the theme mentioned above.
  • English should be the only language used in the video.
  • Children of all ages up to 17 years can participate. Adults can only assist children, but all research and video work need to be done by the children.
  • Please ensure that background noise is kept to a minimum.
  • Videos need to be recorded on mobile phones/basic cameras only and no hi-tech cameras or graphics to be used.

Video Requirements:

  • Duration: Videos should be between 2 to 5 minutes long.
  • Content: Videos must showcase the participant's vision and proposed actions for promoting sustainability in their community or beyond.
  • Originality: Entries must be original creations only.
  • All videos must begin with mention of the participant/participants name, age, school and an introduction to the video.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Format: Videos must be submitted in digital format (MP4 or MOV)
  • Submission Deadline: All entries must be submitted by 01 June 2024
  • Submission Method: Participants can submit their videos via WeTransfer to library.events@britishcouncil.org mentioning British Council Sustainable Competition followed by the participant/participants name in the subject line.
  • File name: File name should be the name(s) of the participants and the name of their video.
  • Consent forms (to be provided by the British Council): Parents of all the participants will be required to sign the consent forms for upload and display of the video on the British Council Digital Library platform.

British Council sustainability team will select two winners from the entries received. These will be judged based on age group, originality, creativity and impact. All participants will receive a digital certificate of participation. For more queries please write to the email address provided above.
