Clare Sears-Wood MBE, Country Director
Clare Sears-Wood MBE is the Country Director for Sri Lanka at the British Council, where she leads teams across five centres, delivering programmes in English, Education and the Arts.
She is an international cultural relations leader with more than 20 years’ experience at the British Council, working across culture, education, international relations and organisational leadership.
Previously as Director of the Western Balkans region: her work has ranged from large-scale transformational education and skills programmes such as the 21st Century Schools programme which worked with 5,000 schools and 20,000 teachers to give more than a million children problem solving and coding skills to arts, culture and the creative economy. She has focused particularly on strengthening recognition of the creative economy across the Western Balkans: bringing governments, practitioners and international partners together around a shared vision for skills, employment, economic development and regional cooperation.
Prior to joining the British Council Clare worked in Marketing and Communications with a particular focus on Arts and Culture, working for The Hay Festival of Literature and Arts, The Orange Prize for Fiction, and with a wide range of authors and books including, briefly as part of the Orange Word series, Michael Ondaatije and Salman Rushdie and the Wisden Cricketers' Almanac.
