Orlando Edwards, Country Director

Orlando Edwards is the Country Director for Sri Lanka at the British Council, where he leads a team of over 230 staff across five centres, delivering programmes in English, Education and the Arts.

Orlando has over 15 years of international experience with the British Council, working across Europe, North Africa and East Asia. Prior to his current role, he was Country Director in Algeria, where he served as Senior Responsible Owner for the flagship, multi-million-pound Supporting School Reform Algeria programme—supporting national education reform at scale.

A Chinese and French speaker, he has extensive experience in China, having spent over a decade working in and on the country, with postings in Wuhan, Shanghai and Beijing. He also worked at the British Council’s headquarters in London, supporting business development, organisational change and operational improvement across the Americas and East Asia.

Orlando holds a degree in Chinese from the University of Edinburgh and has a strong professional interest in cultural relations, international education and languages.

Outside of work, he is a keen sportsperson. He has represented the UK in mountain running at European and World Championships, and enjoys cycling and sailing.
