Information and advice about your IELTS test day in Sri Lanka

What candidates should bring to the exam centre 

  • Original and Valid Passport.
  • Colour Copy of Passport Bio Page. (If there are any alterations, copies of those pages as well)
  • If required, transparent bottle of water.

Note: If you are a dual citizen, you need to bring both passports with colour copies of bio pages and alterations (if any). 

Arriving for the test

Please be present at the exam venue at the registration time mentioned in the IELTS Test Confirmation Email.

Late Arrivals will be refused entry to the exam. 

Dress Code

Candidates are requested to avoid wearing clothing with heavy writing in any language.

Any candidate wearing such clothing will be refused entry to the exam. Final decision is at the discretion of Exam Venue Staff. 

My Belongings / Baggage

There will be a secure baggage area where you need to leave all your belongings. British Council is not responsible for loss or damage to your personal belongings at the test venue. Therefore, we strongly recommend leaving valuables like mobile phones, computers, jewellery, etc. at home.

All watches, irrespective of their style and age, are not allowed in the test room. You will be required to leave your watch with your belongings in the secure baggage area. There will be a clock available inside the test room.

Passport Check

Exam Venue Staff will check your passport.

Invalid, expired or damaged documents will be rejected.

Test Day Photograph & Finger-scan

Your photograph will be taken as an additional security measure and will appear on your Test Report Form (TRF).

We will also take your finger-scan.

During the Exam

  • Your passport will be checked again by the Exam Venue Staff.
  • You are not allowed to leave the test room during the Listening Test and Within the last 10 Minutes of each section (Reading and Writing).
  • If you need to take a washroom break or any other help, raise the hand to attract attention of the invigilator. 
  • Do not disturb other test takers. 
  • You are required to remain in the seat until the invigilator gives you permission to leave at the end of the test.

End of the Test

If you want to raise and issue or a complaint, you may do so through a Test Day Incident Form. This form needs to be completed and submitted to the invigilator / supervise before you leave the room.
