All our classrooms are comfortable, air-conditioned and fully equipped for learning. We use digital whiteboard technology, projectors, DVD/CD players and a sound system to enhance your child’s learning experience. Our class sizes are a maximum of 20 students for English for Young Learners and English for Teenagers courses.

If you enrol on an adult course with us you will also get free reference membership of the English Learning Services in our library, which gives you access to:

  • a wide range of self-study English learning resources
  • self-study paths for each level to guide you to the resources you need to support your course
  • practice materials for English language exams (IELTS, CELA).
  • If you are a registered as an Adult student / Young Learner student of our Teaching Centre, you are entitled to a discounted Library membership

  • How can I arrange to do a level check?
    Please visit the 'register for a course' webpage. 
  • When can I register for a class?
    Once you have completed your level checks you will then be able to register from early January onwards.
  • Can I pay in instalments?
    If you possess a Commercial Bank Credit Card you can pay the fees via the 0% interest easy payment plan. Please contact our customer services for more information. 
  • How can we make payments?
    You can pay by cash, cheques, Direct Bank transfers, credit or debit cards. Please speak to our Customer Services Team if you require further information.
  • When can I attend a class?
    We have classes on weekdays and weekends. You will be placed in the class which is at the same level as your level check result. Please note that Saturday classes consist of only Young Learners and Sunday classes are only for adults.
  • Do I have to pay for the books?
    Yes. You will be able to buy the book(s) for your course during the first week of each term only at the British Council.
  • How many students will be in my class?
    Maximum capacity for all our classes will be 20 students per class. 
  • What other services does the British Council provide?
    We have a library with over 3,000 Books, DVDs, Periodicals and Newspapers. You also have access to our Exam and Study UK services. 
  • Are teachers foreigners or locals?
    We have a diverse teaching staff which reflects the fact that English is an international language and the UK is a diverse, multi-cultural society; all our teachers are UK qualified which is reflected in the high teaching quality and effectiveness of learning. Our teaching material is from the UK which gives added cultural context to the learning.
  • Are there any arrangements for students with special needs and disabilities?
    At our teaching centres in Sri Lanka, we operate inclusive practices. This is detailed in our Special Educational Need and Disability (SEND) policy here on the website. Our classes are open to any student whatever their educational need or disability and we will ensure we offer appropriate support for them to access our classes.
