This benchmarking exercise is an initiative conducted in Sri Lanka by the British Council to support our work in English language development. The results of the exercise was released to the public at the British Council Aptis English Language Forum.
To understand the level of English required in specific job roles in each of the English language skills (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening)
- BPO, KPO and IT
- Manufacturing and Retail
- Hospitality and Tourism
The research was conducted by interviewing role-holders and their managers to find out exactly what they needed to be able to do in English.
- Tasks and responsibilities
- Purpose of communication
- Target audience for communication
- Level of complexity of the above
The research did not assess the role-holders actual levels of English: it only defines what levels are needed.
All results are based on the globally accepted standard for language assessment: the Common European Framework of Reference. The individual sector reports are available for download on request. Please contact us for the specific reports.
