The British Council will be celebrating World Book Day on the 7 and 8 March 2014. It’s the perfect opportunity to rejoice the greatness of reading and all its benefits to the mind and soul. For this year, the British Council has planned a few programmes for children who are interested in participating. Given below is the list of events with dates and times.

Friday 7 March

Red Star Search

The objective is to find a book right off the shelves that have a Red star on it. The lucky members who will find these stars will win a brand new copy of the book that had the Star in it. This activity is open to all members of the Young Learners library.

Saturday 8 March

Story Time Session

This is the popular monthly story time session held for children between the ages 4 – 8. This is an interactive story telling session, where children will be able to improve on their listening and creative abilities. This month’s story is “The Journey”. It is an event open to all, but remember to get yourself registered fast, because the limited spaces are filling out fast! Registrations are Rs. 200/- per child.

The Big Book Swap

By this particular activity, the children will experience the mystery of receiving a book – and that: is the essence of The Big Book Swap. Each child is requested to bring a story book that is in a good and usable condition from home that they have out-grown. There will be a session organised for the children to write a personalised message to the books future reader on the first page of the story book they are giving away – it could be a positive thought about their book, or a simple quote about the joys of reading. All the books will be kept together, and the children will later be given the chance to choose their own book from that lot. The idea of having a second hand, but usable book is to teach children that a book can never be too old to tell a story, and nor does it change the love it receives from its reader! Open to children participating in the Story Time session. If you are interested in participating only for the Big Book Swap – please let us know.

Kindly note that the spaces for the Story Time and the Book Swap sessions are limited, and will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
