As part of its Dance for Reconciliation Programme, British Council Arts is partnering with Natanda Dance Company to run a series of community dance workshops for local dance groups to learn how t o use dance techniques to build community cohesiveness and build trust amongst communities in post-conflict and impoverished areas of the country.
British Council Arts are supporting three regional dance groups from Jaffna, Ratnapura and Kandy to come to Colombo to perform alongside and learn from dance companies coming from US, Lebanon, India, Malaysia, Korea and Japan. We are proud to be bringing out BirdGang as the UK’s contribution to the festival and workshop sessions.
Formed in 2005, BirdGang Dance Company is an 'Aahehop' based dance company; a group of individuals from all over the world who have come together as a family to deliver a message: “Fly or Die”. Through art, dance, and music they aim to move and capture peoples' hearts and bring the audience into their world, to experience a new wave of emotion and to view the hip hop art form in a new light.
BirdGang has featured in Street Dance 3D 1 and 2, collaborated with many mainstream dance Companies and represented the UK in the World Hip Hop Championships in Las Vegas.
