The Fairway Galle Literary Festival was the first-ever international literary festival to be held in Sri Lanka, founded by adventurer/hotelier Geoffrey Dobbs in 2007. This ambitious venture launched with an impressive line-up of accomplished international and local authors such as the late great Arthur C. Clarke, Kiran Desai (winner of the Man Booker Prize, 2006), Sir Mark Tully and Romesh Gunesekera.

This year we are bringing over Malika Booker who is a spoken word and multidisciplinary artist of Guyanese and Grenadian parentage, whose work spans literature, education and cross-arts.

Awarded numerous international residencies, Malika is a Fellow of both The Complete Works and Cave Canem. She was inaugural Poet in Residence at the Royal Shakespeare Company and is a founder of ‘Malika’s Poetry Kitchen’, a writer’s collective for beginning and emerging poets.

Malika’s first stage work (monologue/play) ‘Absolution’ was commissioned by The Austrian Cultural Institute, Apples & Snakes and Battersea Arts Centre and was a double bill with Toby Jones’ play The Reprieve. The performance toured nationally.

She will also be conducting Childrens’ workshops on the art of storytelling as a way of describing who they are, in Galle and Jaffna.
