City & Guilds is the leading provider of vocational qualifications in the UK. Their qualifications assess skills that are of practical value in the work place. They are recognised for their quality and are valued by employers in every sector of business
The examinations consist of three levels: Certificate, Diploma and Advance Diploma.
Exam dates and locations
The British Council conducts the City & Guilds exam twice a year; in June and December.
Examination venues are at the British Council offices in Colombo and Kandy.
Registration for the December 2015 session will be open from September 2015.
How to register
Complete and submit the application form (the form will be available to download on this page from the 1 February 2014) and hand it over to your examination centre with the fees and an identification document (passport or a National Identity Card). The application form should be completed in accordance with the City & Guilds International Regulations. The full City & Guilds International Regulations are available for reference at the British Council customer services counter.
PLEASE NOTE: On no account will a candidate be allowed to sit for the examination without NIC or passport.
Once registered, please visit any of our branches to obtain information about the timetable of the subjects you are applying for. You can also collect your sample question paper (free of charge) from the photocopying counter upon your registration.
How to pay
- The price structure for the June 2016 session will be available by the first week of February 2016.
- The exam fee should be paid in Sri Lankan currency (Sri Lankan Rupees).
- You can also make a bank transfer to the following account (please bring or post the receipt)

If you are unable to sit for the examination due to an illness or an accident, City and Guilds will consider a refund of 50% of the exam fee. You will need to submit proof of your condition along with your request for refund within one calendar month from the day of your exam.
It is not possible to transfer fees from one examination session to another.
