About this course
The Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) is an affordable, internationally recognised teaching qualification for teachers of primary, secondary and adult English learners.
Our TKT course will help you to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to successfully take the theory component of the Teaching Knowledge Test.
Whether you’re an experienced teacher who wants to keep their skills up-to-date or a teacher with less experience who wants to enhance their career opportunities, you can now take the TKT course in Colombo or Kandy every Sunday. The TKT course consists of three part-time study modules – one three-hour class every week.
- Module 1 - background to language teaching
This is a 30-hour course for new or experienced teachers. Module One covers language and background to language learning and teaching. This can be done face to face or online.
- Module 2 - planning for language teaching
This is a 30-hour course for new or experienced teachers. Module Two covers Planning Lessons and use of resources for a language teaching. This can be done face to face or online.
- Module 3 - classroom management
This is a 30-hour course for new or experienced teachers. Module Three covers managing the teaching and learning process. This can be done face to face or online.
The minimum level for this course is the Common European Framework B1 or British Council Pre-Intermediate 3. TKT courses have a maximum of 30 participants.
Teaching Knowledge Test Content and Language Integrated learning (TKT CLIL)
This is a 30 hour content and language integrated learning course. This is for English medium teachers to help teach content in English.
Part One covers knowledge of CLIL and principles of CLIL.
Part Two covers lesson preparation, lesson delivery and assessment.
This is a face to face course.
Teaching Knowledge Test Young Learners (TKT YL)
This is a 30-hour Young Learner course.
Part One covers knowledge of young learners and principles of teaching English to young learners.
Part Two covers planning and preparing young learner lessons.
Part Three covers teaching young learners and Part Four covers assessing young learner learning through classroom-based assessment.
Teaching Knowledge Test Practical (TKT Practical)
This is a 15-hour course which comprises 14 hours of face to face lesson planning leading up to a classroom observation done at your school. The observation is one hour.
Exam practice classes
This is a 2.5-hour session before the exams (except the practical) which covers exam skills and tips. These are advertised during the course itself and on the website
Our popular TKT course is now available online and is delivered by experienced online tutors. It is delivered completely online via the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Moodle and contains discussion forums, collaborative activities, external links and resources.
For both these courses, there is an optional face to face workshop at the beginning of the course to introduce you to online learning.
Module one is run first.
Note: Each course will run with a minimum of 12 participants and maximum of 18.
